Prebiotics and probiotics improve metabolism in gestational diabetes

The combination of probiotic plus inulin improves insulin levels. Gestational diabetes occurs when women without diabetes develop high blood sugar levels during pregnancy. Symbiotics combine prebiotics and probiotics. In this study, 70 women with gestational diabetes took a placebo or a combination of L. acidophilus, L. casei and bifidobacterium, in 2 trillion colony-forming units each, plus 800 mg of inulin per day. After six weeks, serum insulin levels had decreased significantly for those taking symbiotics while increasing for placebo. In addition, the group of synbiotics became more sensitive and less resistant to insulin, while the placebo group did not. Triglyceride levels and very low density cholesterol (VLDL) levels also decreased for synbiotics while increasing for placebo. When analyzing the findings, doctors said that symbiotics can improve the management of blood sugar by rebalancing intestinal bacteria and reducing the production and absorption of intestinal toxins. .
