The nursing rounds of the Cynthia district find her administering daily injections of insulin to the diabetic John Lacey, a deplorable abuser who always belittles his wife Annie. A visit from Annie's beloved son, Bob, and Cynthia's moral support, make Annie gain confidence and begin to change her life. Jenny's work leads her to witness the persecution of a different variety, when she takes care of a black mother, Monique, who is subject to the racial prejudices of her neighbors. Funded by the success of the Summer Party, Nonnatus House takes charge of a scooter to help him in his rounds.
