Another suggestion of memory: in DKA, the "D" is the first to be type 1 diabetic.
DKA: Type 1, breaks down fat = ketones = ketoacidosis. Which causes metabolic acidosis and increased potassium, Kussmauls respiration, blood sugar = 200-800, priority treatment = insulin
HHNK (HHNS): Type 2, commonly caused by an infection, does not contain enough sugar in the cells, the liver produces more sugar, the patient dehydrates, the blood sugar 800-2,000, priority treatment = fluids.
